Haven's Peak uses Dungeons and Dragons 5e as its rule set with a few variants. Our Narrators are empowered to make split-second rulings and decisions. If you have a question or concern regarding a ruling please bring it up in the help channel and tag a Narrator. If a disagreement about a ruling would derail gameplay, we consider the narrator's decision to be the final say, but a new rule may be considered for similar situations if needed.
Rule Variants
Material Components
Any material component in the game is replaced with an Arcane Gem unless there is a specified cost for the component, in this case, you will require a gem and the material component. This Gem also counts towards any requirement for a magical focus.
Gritty Realism
This variant uses a short rest of 8 hours and a long rest of 7 days. This puts the brakes on the campaign, requiring the players to carefully judge the benefits and drawbacks of combat. Characters can't afford to engage in too many battles in a row, and all adventuring requires careful planning.
This approach encourages the characters to spend time out of the dungeon. This allows characters to engage in crafting and other downtime activities.
Downtime Activities
We utilize Xanathars Guide to Everything for downtime activities, though you are free to make suggestions for how you wish to spend your downtime and a narrator will work with you to make it happen.
Lingering Injuries
When a critical hit occurs (or a critical fail on a save for some spells) A Narrator will roll on a table and a lingering injury is applied. These can range from a minor annoyance to a major problem. This will also apply to monsters and other enemies. Remember that there are NPCs that will help you overcome these sorts of challenges if you wish.
